Maker Faire countdown...

It is t-minus 4 days until Maker Faire and I can hardly wait. My fellow artist Alisa and I will be traveling to the bay area next Saturday to meet up with the fabulous Skelekitty, Yoli, the Crafty Chica, and Corky to take in the fun of Maker Faire. I have never been but it is apparently an amazing amass of DIY projects, ideas, and just general creativity. The whole DIY movement has really expanded in the wake of the declining economy. I will blog about the fun for sure. Until then, look for some art...

A day in the park...

Here in San Diego Balboa Park is a great place to hang out, enjoy the sights, and find some art. Today I spent the afternoon sampling some international food from the United Nation's houses. Palestine made a fabulous little donut called, darn it I forgot. I also had a nice empanada from the house of Puerto Rico. With friends Angela and her sis (two fun girls from Jamaica) we strolled about the wonderful gardens full of flowers in bloom for spring. I got some great shots of the blooms full of rich color and texture. Check out my flickr page to see my shots from today. Get out and find some spring blooms in your neighborhood!

Music as Art

As a patron of the arts on occasion I like to enjoy art in the form of music. Last night I watched the musical genius of Nine Inch Nails an Janes Addiction along with my partner in fun, Alisa. I have to say there are few artists I have seen over the years who are more incredible in concert than on a CD. NIN put on such an amazing show, if you have not seen them I highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. The music in the live format is an amazing experience. Watching the energy of the artists on stage was inspiring and awesome to see. Trent Reznor and Dave Navarro are some seriously talented guys who really put it all out there on stage in a way that is almost mesmerizing. So thats it for now, get out and see some ART!

Take a picture.......

With the arrival of digital technology the world of photography has changed dramatically. For me it is much more fun as although the cost of my digital SLR was not cheap, I can now take 700 photos with 1 memory card that I can use over and over. Previously, I would have had to buy film and pay for developing, both a bit costly. Also, there is the instant gratification that I can see in a general sense what my picture looks like that I took, no longer do I have to wait to get the developed photos back to see if the shot came out. If you have moved into the world of digital SLR there are a few necessary items that you should get along with your camera and lens. 1) Get a UV filter for your lens. The biggest benefit you will get from the filter is that IF you drop your camera the filter will provide some protection for your lens. I recently dropped my camera in a bag wtih a filter on the lens and have to say it TOTALLY SAVED my rather $$$$ lens. So, if you do not have a filter, get one. Best place for cost is actually Amazon , be sure to look on your lens so you get the correct size. The other handy item is a lens cap leash. This will save you the annoyance of not being able to find your lens cap. Again, Amazon has the most competitive prices. Most camera items from memory cards to bags and such I have found to be really reasonably priced on Amazon. Ok, there is my though for the day. Go out and shoot!

Mothers Day and Ray at Night

Ray at Night is a fabulous local art happening here in SD on each 2nd Saturday of the month. It is a small street which is host to a number of artist spaces that are open late into the night during Ray at Night. It is a fun festival like atmosphere where you can roam from space to space seeing all types of art from painting to mixed media, even some fabulous jewelry. I was there this past Saturday with one of my biggest fans, my step-mom. I was lucky enough for the universe to send me 2 moms! Like most parents she is a supporter of all endeavours her children undertake and has bought several pieces of art both myself and my roommate and fellow artist have made. It was really lovely to share a fabulous meal and stroll through the artist spaces and feel a little immersed in another world. Check-out if your local area has a similar event, most cities do these days. It is a fun way to support the arts. All for now.

Cows in La Jolla

No kidding! There are really cows in La Jolla! Ok, they are public works of art currently on display in the La Jolla Cow Parade until the end of June. This last Sunday I met up with some folks from the San Diego Photography Meet-Up Gourp and walked the streets for a couple of hours looking for the cows. It was a great day, perfect weather, and I did not have to do anything but show up and snap pictures! If you are a photog no matter your level of experience I suggest joining the SD Photography Meet-Up group. It is a great way to meet other photographers and learn tips and tricks as well as make new friends. Photos I captured of the cows can be seen on my Flickr page so check them out. Look out for where I go next...

So I'm a blogger now........

I have decided to join the fun and start blogging about one of my favorite things, art. My friends Crafty Chica , Skelekitty ,and Yoli http://sacredyoli.blogspot.com/ have all inspired me to join the fun. A slideshow of my photos is running on the right of my blog page. You can also see more photos on Flickr. I am an artist (always feel the art police will jump out and get me when I say that) and work mostly in mixed media collage and digital photography. The photography is really my 1st love of art. I hail from an artist father and began taking photos back in college and have never stopped. Last year after getting camera envy when a friend bought a Nikon D300 I broke down and got the super fancy camera. I have to say after using a Pentax for years I am now a fan of the Nikon products. As you can see from my Flickr page I love travel and new places. Most of my photos are for sale, just contact me. So that is my introduction and a little about me. hope you enjoy the blog.
